Gaming for a cause
When Playstation was looking for an impactful, creative way to launch its
new games, AIM Media came up with the perfect opportunity. AIM's 7 video
screens, situated in the high traffic intersection of Richmond St. and Duncan
St. area, became the ideal spot to take PS2's interactivity to a big audience.
On a perfect summer weekend, the busy corner came to life. The streets were
partially closed. Platforms were specially set up in front of the screens.
And seven consoles were connected to the screens, with each screen functioning
as a spectacular giant monitor.
Passers-by were invited to play the games and in no time, the street corner
was transformed into an outdoor gaming centre replete with contests and
giveaways. As the players tested their skills, hundreds of people in the
vicinity and vehicles passing by, witnessed the action.
Participants were also encouraged to make a small donation to the cause
of Autism, a much needed charity. City TV and CFTO covered the event, creating
awareness and also demonstrating that there is more to the entertainment
district than just nightclubs.
Sony Playstation and The Autism Canada Foundation were of course elated.
Not only did they receive great reviews from the patrons, business owners
and authorities in the area, they managed to raise a considerable amount
of money for Autism.
